There is the old saying that when one door closes another opens. This is so true. Most of the time there are many doors that open. It can be hard sometimes to identify the doors and it may seem that we are stuck in the corridor. It is also sad at times when a door closes and you may need time to adjust between doors.
All these things have become evident to me over the last few months. There has been the closing of doors for my children as two have graduated the schools they are at and are leaving to other schools. There has been the closing of doors as I complete two projects that have been multi year commitments. And there has been the handover of the Army Reserve Combat Engineer Squadron that I have had the honour of commanding.
In all these cases there has been a commitment to the role or organisation for multi years and the departure does bring some sadiness. It means farewells to people that we have worked with, studied with and played with. As we depart we also have celebrated the time and achievements in these places. There has been plenty to celebrate.
As the saying goes “one door closes another opens”, there has also been the opportunities and new adventures that face us. There is new schools to pick. There is decisions about what to do next in in terms of work and I been a posted to studies at the Australian Command and Staff College to further my development as an Army Officer.
So as you reflect on what doors are closing this year in your life, also reflect on what doors are opening. What opportunities and adventures has commenced or will commence in 2016. What way will you shape these changes to align with your passions, dreams and strengths? May your passions drive you and your dreams lead you to fulfilling your life’s destiny.
